Summary

The position of Variable Hour Advisor exists to assist the Advising Department during times of high student traffic and special events. Hourly Advisors develop academic plans for students, assessing academic needs & career goals. The Hourly Advisor advises students on courses, programs of study, transferability, career options and college resources. The Hourly Advisor also assists students and staff with the registration process using college catalogs, schedules, transfer guides, assessment test results, banner system and appropriate internet resources.

Responsibilities
Assess academic needs and career goals of students. Advise students on courses, programs of study, transferability, career options and college resources. Assist students and staff with the registration process using college catalogs, schedules, transfer guides, assessment test results, banner system and appropriate internet resources. Assist in preparing personalized learning plans and unofficial degree reviews, knowing when to refer to full time Academic Advisors or faculty department leads. Help retain students and aid in their transition through higher education. Consult with full time Academic Advisors to stay current with accurate information regarding program changes, assessment guidelines, course and instructor information, transfer issues, scholarships and appropriate referrals. Respond to informational requests from students, staff, high school counselors and others interested in Red Rocks Community College, coming to the Advising Department on a walk-in basis. Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a service environment that is subject to frequent interruptions. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Able to work for a minimum of 3- 4 hour time period shifts.
    • Hours may vary and be on an as needed basis.
  • BA/BS from a regionally accredited College or University.

Minimum Competencies: 

  • Demonstrated ability to provide high levels of customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Self-starter that takes initiative while working in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MA/MS from a regionally accredited College or University in counseling, human services,
    or related field
  • Previous experience in a Higher Ed advising environment
  • Previous experience working with Banner
