Job Description

Variable Hour – STEM Navigator, RRCC STEM Transfer Programs


Red Rocks Community College, Lakewood, Colorado


$19.00 per hour – Maximum 28 hours per week.


The STEM Navigator is a time-limited, grant funded position. This position functions with direction and supervision from the IDEA Institute, Engineering Transfer Program, and Honors Program. The Navigator works cooperatively with campus groups including advising, internships, and experiential learning, as well as STEM faculty and has the following responsibilities:

  • Promote RRCC STEM education, especially to underrepresented groups in STEM (low-income/first-generation, minorities, women)
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and student support services advertise and promote information about STEM Scholars, STEMCore and IDEA Lab
  • Assist with development and delivery of academic support in STEMCore (accelerated math courses developmental math to Calculus I)
  • Create support, advocacy, and mentoring opportunities for STEM students
  • Collect, maintain, and report student data
  • Work collaboratively with Career and Internship Center to assist students with career inventory assessment and internship development
  • Develop marketing about STEM Program


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • One-year experience in instruction, student services, employment services, or a related field
  • Presentation and written communication skills
  • Ability to research, organize and plan program activities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Academic or industry experience in a science, technology, math, or engineering field
  • Experience with grant administration
  • Employment experience in an academic setting

Notes on Variable Hour Employment: Variable-Hour employees are ‘At-Will’ and their employment is not contractually ensured. Variable hour work is temporary and will not exceed one year of service outside of special situations. Variable-Hour employees are required to establish and contribute to a Colorado Public Employees Retirement Account and they will not contribute to Social Security under this classification. Variable-hour employees are permitted to work no more than 28 hours per week at schedules defined by their supervisors.
